OIP
NCOESC is supporting districts in moving forward with the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP). In this process, OIP facilitators work with district leadership teams to complete a comprehensive needs assessment that identifies a district's most critical needs and probably causes based on analysis of data. The facilitators guide the teams in interpreting key findings and prioritizing district needs. The facilitators then guide the teams in developing, implementing and monitoring a refined focus plan. This process assists districts in narrowing their goals, while ensuring that district initiatives and resources are aligned accordingly. The OIP also benefits school districts in building leadership capacity and collegiality among district employees and the school community.
Krista Gerhart, Educational Consultant, assists with the OIP process at our Marion Campus.

MakeItTakeIt

On January 22, 2010, early childhood teachers from School of Hope, Head Start and Fremont NCOESC classrooms participated in a Make-It, Take-It workshop at Otis Elementary designed to introduce "using shoebox tasks to build independence in students with autism spectrum disorders."
Carol Bolander, a former early childhood special education teacher and past recipient of the Northwest Ohio Autism Society's Teacher of the Year Award, introduced this visual and structured work system approach to teachers while referencing her past challenges and successes.
